World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Expansion Pack

Since World of Warcraft: Cataclysm was officially announced on August 21st, 2009 at Blizzcon 2009 there has been much speculation on what we can expect to see.
Blizzard have set this expansion in the “Old World” of Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms after the heroes of Azeroth have claimed victory over the Lich King in Northrend.

The main updates that Blizzard have announced are the two new races; Worgen for the Alliance and Goblins for the Horde. Both of these races will have their own unique levelling areas which promise to give a brand new, unique feel towards levelling for the first time since the game was released back in 2005.
Another major update that many people have been nagging at Blizzard to introduce is being able to fly in the old world. Now, they are able to keep that promise by giving us what we wanted most, which is being able to fly in Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.

As we all know, any expansion isn’t good without a big bad boss to look forward to having a grudge against to try and kill, which is why with Cataclysm we will see a new face come to Azeroth, Deathwing the Destroyer.
The following information is taken from the World of Warcraft Official site:

An ancient evil lies dormant within Deepholm, the domain of earth in the Elemental Plane.

Hidden away in a secluded sanctuary, the corrupted Dragon Aspect Deathwing has waited, recovering from the wounds of his last battle against Azeroth and biding his time until he can reforge the world in molten fire.

Soon, Deathwing the Destroyer will return to Azeroth, and his eruption from Deepholm will sunder the world, leaving a festering wound across the continents. As the Horde and Alliance race to the epicenter of the cataclysm, the kingdoms of Azeroth will witness seismic shifts in power, the kindling of a war of the elements, and the emergence of unlikely heroes who will rise up to protect their scarred and broken world from utter devastation.

From this Blizzard have said that they wish to make this expansion the best they have done so far, and with this many of the old zones will have MAJOR updates such as Duskwood, Stranglethorn Vale and many others.

Along with these updates there are others which are listed below:
– Level Cap raised to 85.
– Profession level cap raised to 525 and will be named Illustrious .
– New secondary profession: Archaeology.
– New glyph type: Medium glyph.
– The 10 and 25 man Raids will share an ID in Cataclysm
– 10 and 25 man Raids in Cataclysm will give the same Loot, the 25er will give more Loot per Character
– There will only be 4 different “badges” in Cataclysm; 2 PvE and 2 PvP badges – though they will be called points. All Points will have a max Cap – both per week and in total.
– 2 New Battlegrounds: Twin Peaks & Battle for Gilneas City
– Rated battlegrounds, an alternative way to earn arena points
– Guild advancement system, which includes guild leveling, achievements, and accessories.

There are many other updates to keep an eye out for, which of course will be posted here the moment they come out!

We will also get opinions from Blizzard Staff on what they think about this expansion and what the future for the game holds.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Cataclysm expansion, and of course all other gaming updates and releases in the near future!
